Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon Review

On the surface Leslie Vernon seems like your average, small-town, nice guy. He has goals, ambition and aspirations to.... follow in the footsteps of his long-time heroes Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger and be the world's next great psycho-slasher. A true self-promoter, Leslie gives documentary filmmaker Taylor and her crew exclusive access to his life as he plans and executes his next great reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo, all the while deconstructing the conventions and archetypes of the horror genre for them. This movie was one of the most original Ideas for the slasher genre that I've seen for quite some time, even though it openly talks about other Slasher greats like Jason and Michael. It's funny and it makes a pretty damn good addition to any self-respecting horror movie fans list. It kept me laughing and waiting for the stab and slash mayhem at the same time. Great cinematography, shot half in hand-held documentary style and the other in traditional slasher style... brilliant fuckin story and the music wasn't too bad either. Bad ass all around, go get this shit right now! I give it 4 1/2 stabs to the dome.
